A Chemical Engineer turned Human Resource practitioner cum Career and Employability Coach, Mr. Segun Akiode has launched Corporate Misfit: Immutable Career Lessons for Fresh Graduates. Corporate Misfit which is Segun’s maiden book is focused on employability for fresh graduates, employees and those seeking employment.
Speaking during the media presentation of the book in Lagos, Segun said the book is borne out of a cry to deal with the growing concern among employers of labour and recruiters alike about the state of employability of fresh graduates in Nigeria.
He said there is an intense demand on the government to do more in the area of job creation as unemployment statistics remain scary. In Nigeria, The World Bank reported that about 50 million Nigerian youths are unemployed. The National Bureau of Statistics in 2014 estimated the number of jobless youths in the country to be no fewer than 5.3 million, with about 1.8 million graduates entering the labour market every year.
The Human Resource Specialist said as much as there are millions of people looking for gainful employment, employers of labour also need to hire regularly but their experiences have been that of scarcity of qualitative talent in the labour market.
Segun said Corporate Misfit is about paradigm shifts from the conventional teachings of societal norms about a career and the job search process. According to him, the book offers fresh graduates and job seekers that come in contact with it wise counsel to make better career choices and help them not to lose their way.
Also speaking at the media presentation, the Chief Executive Officer of Insipro Consulting and author of Free from Corporate Slavery, Mr. Jimi Tewe commended Segun Akiode for the depth of his research and for combining his personal experience to deliver solutions that will help thousands of young graduates. Jimi said with Corporate Misfit, the errors of the past would not be repeated by the present generation.
